Gee driving illegally in a illegal car is now seen as a problem??
When I started a campaign in 2004 to fight for the same concessions that had been granted to street rods I was confronted with rampant innertia. Those that had a car registered didnt have a problem and those that were building were fewer in numbers or didnt comprehend the long term ramifications.
Here in SA the street rods have been granted a conditional registration scheme (same as historic vehs, or vic club rego) but them only!!ICVs in SA now have photos taken at rego inspection so that regulators can access the build photos at traffic stop locations and even the most non car savy nerd can see the changes that have occured since that time.
Concerning the hoon aspect, consider these situations.
1. Driver leaving petrol stn drives thru water in gutter and accelerates into traffic. Car is modern unmodified family sedan, tyres are wet and some loss of traction occures. Police stop driver and suggest hoon driveing offence has been committed. Driver is booked but charge is later dropped because petrol stn attendent has filled out statement that no offence has occurred and he is prepared to appear in court to that effect.
2. Driver in front of me on main road is turning across traffic into side street. He sees a gap and takes off. If its a light tray or utility type vehs there is a better than 50/50 chance that his inside tyre will break traction. Guilty as charged your honour-lose your car.
Question. Why dont burglars, home invaders, con men corrupt officials, drug taking sports stars etc etc lose their cars and other personal items as part of their penalty
