Yes but with Ford C4 automatic transmissions. There were fifteen (15) new production Cobras with automatic transmissions after August 1964 that have been verified. A friend owns one. I got to drive it back from a repair shop in the next town over from his. After decades of driving my black car driving that high performance C4 was strange. I knew there was no clutch pedal but my habit of driving kept hunting the pedal with my left foot anyway.
The engine and transmission assembly was for a rare regular production option set, the 1965 Fairlane with high performance 289 c.i.d. engine and matching high performance C4 automatic transmission. Ford was supplying SA with these units in the fall of 1964. It would be the 1966 model year Mustangs (including GT350s) before high performance 289s and high performance C4s would be offered again.
