That's exactly what a
oil thermostat does.
When the temperature is below a certain level, the
oil doesn't go through the cooler. I know that years ago our cooler sandwich adapter had a fairly crude one built-in, but is NLA now. Our current one doesn't have one. Blocking the airflow through the cooler would help a lot.
