I had the same problem and it was a multiple solution type problem, so far what they have said about insulating the starter it is true, however, you might need a high torque starter.
I changed mine and in addition it is well insulated, check your gas lines and their proximity to the engine you might want to insulate them as well.
I installed a 1/2 " phenolic spacer for the carb, I changed the gas filter and ensured that my air filter was the appropriate one as well.
How is the engine temp, optimum temp is bout 180-190* if it is over than that you might want to check your coolant, I use Prestone less than 50:50 ratio plus water wetter. Open road I am doing 180-185* short and stop 200* that's when my fans kick on. This is just to start with. I hope that this gives you some ideas .

Make sure that you are not over boiling the gas and emptying the carb bowls when the car is turned off.
