Hi Rob,
I was in the same boat very recently, gauge testing showed a deflection on the gauge as per above, but nothing would show up during cranking.

So f#%k it I said, let's hit the key and go for a start, and see what happens. And carefully watching during the start, I saw instant pressure within say 3 seconds. Very relieved to say the least as I was just about to shut it off.

I know it was not officially primed, but the motor had been run before (ex-crate engine), and it turned over real nice and easy, so I took the leap of faith being prepared to stop quickly if no pressure showed up.

It turned out ok.
