Hi,
You need to find and chat to an engineer (possibly the one your chosen kit manufacturer uses as they will be familiar with the kit), and make sure that a 302 will pass emissions in your state.
Finding one wont be hard, plenty of wreckers around that sell 302's or you can even buy a whole wrecked car.
