maybe a dumb answer, but why not snip out some 1-2mm steel plate, drill and tap 2 holes to match those on the shiny centre bracket and mount that underneath the scuttle with some glue (so it doesnt fall out). Wont pull the bracket out, wont strain the GRP holes or the threads, and bracket still demountable.

anyone got holes for this that arent exactly on the centreline of the car? mine (not an ERA) are slightly out
