ok it never occurred to me that this may no longer apply, but thanks for pointing it out and it seems to be the case; this is from the infrastructure.gov ADR's;

ADR 41—Mandatory Operation on Unleaded Petrol

The function of this Australian Design Rule is to require vehicles to be manufactured to operate on ‘Unleaded petrol’ and have certain associated features.

/00—This standard ceased to have effect for new vehicles as from 13 February 2001.


and I also looked up ADR 79 Emission Control for Light Vehicles, which has no mention of a restrictor. The requirement for the label is however still in force, section 5.1.3.2.2. from ADR 79 reads;

The vehicle is conspicuously, legibly and indelibly marked with the symbol
for unleaded petrol, specified in ISO 2575:1982, in a position immediately
visible to a person filling the petrol tank. Additional markings are permitted
