From what I've read, the basic difference in the 289 block vs the 302 is that the 302 cylinder length is longer to support the added stroke. The location of the wristpin in the piston is the same on both the 289 and 302 engines. You should be able to use the Speedpro H654P pistons. Are you using a 289 or 302 crank? Be sure you have the correct connecting rods. They are different lengths. The 289 is 5.1550" and the 302 is 5.0900".
