Lippy, mine is mounted on the negative terminal also . Not ideal but I've done it this way on my Corvette for years and now the ERA - with no problems.

I prefer the knife blade contact-type switch and use that on my Corvette. I have had green knob switches that sometime make contact and sometimes don't. But not enough room in the ERA to use the knife blade type.
