Default Spare wheel fittings

I now have one of Jim Feldman's excellent spare wheel wingnuts in cast aluminium. It has a ⅜ BSW thread. Can anyone with access to an original car tell me what the other parts of this fitting should be? From guesswork I would assume some threaded rod, fixed to the spare wheel well base by a nut either side of the fibreglass with suitable washers to spead the load. Right idea, or too simple? This is a leafspring, rack-and-pinion 289, but I imagine they're all pretty similar. I know the Ace used this same cast nut.

Thanks
Roger
