A Big block Ford has not proven to be a winning combination for my situation. I have no hood clearance which forces me to run an aircleaner which is so thin that when I mash the gas the engine falls on it's face due to air starvation. Take the air cleaner out of the equation and it runs like a scalded dog. I don't want to change intake manifolds and cut a hole in the hood or build some sort of red neck scoop. Also the
oil pan has been crushed and replaced three times due to lack of ground clearance. Also cooling has always been an issue. I have the largest aluminum 2 row 1" tube racing radiator that can fit in the car and in stop and go traffic the temp creeps up. The car runs well but it's had to work a lot harder than I anticipated to take care of Big block Chevelle's and even the occasional newer GTO even gave me a run for a little bit. Just doesn't rev quick enough and doesn't make enough vacuum for my brakes. I could go on and on, but simply the 427 roller motor from Proformance makes as much power, weighs significantly less, is a roller motor (very quick RPMs) will fit under my hood, not drag the
oil pan, and will cool better. Doesn't have the vacuum for the brakes however. Personal preference. Forged crank and pistons also a plus.
