Default Need help with side curtain ferrules

The center side curtain ferrules on both doors of my B&B are loose, rattling, and starting to gouge the paint. They both need to tightened up and I can't figure out how to do that.

Have talked to Barry McGill and he told me that, at the time my car was built, they didn't use ferrules, so they were added by somebody else at a later date. There is a steel bar inside the door that prevents me looking inside the door and up at the bottom of the ferrule to see how they are attached.

Both ferrules will pull up and down about 1/16" and they will both rotate a few degrees, but won't come out. The ferrules appear to be a lathe turned part with no wrench flats, screwdriver slots, hex, or any other way to turn them.

Gotta get 'em tightened before they wear a hole right in the glass.

Anybody have any ideas before I drill some holes and invest in a borescope?
