Tell us more details about the motor. A lot of the time the details of the motor may help explain some issues with carburetors. Run on or dieseling can be due to an idle speed too high. Or a big cam with low vacuum and a carb not adjusted for it. Poor hot starts could be due to some perculation of fuel in the bowl when shut down hot. Sometimes an insulator gasket under the carb helps a lot if there is hood clearance. If there is too much initial timing in the motor it tends to show up in hot starts but usually by the starter lugging down. But more motor information is needed.
