289 competition cars had one mechanical pump (289 hipo pump) and one electric pump (Stewart Warner 240A), two fuel pickup points were used on the auxiliary fuel tank in the trunk at different heights on the side of the tank (main, reserve), one hose (reserve) went to the electric pump and then to the selector valve, the other fuel hose (main) went directly to the selector valve. Both hoses went to the selector valve. One hose went from the selector valve to the mechanical fuel pump at the engine, then one hose went from the mechanical fuel pump to the fuel distribution manifold on the intake manifold water outlet pipe. FYI, the mechanical pump can draw fuel threw the electric pump when the electric pump is turned off.
