Roger,
This will take a couple of threads.
If the body is in raw gel coat you should first wash it with soap and water and then wipe it down with a product made by Dupont called 2319S. This will help in removing any mold release(waxes) from the factory. DO NOT USE ANY SOLVENT BASED CLEANERS!!! This will create static electricity and could ignite!!
Next, Sand the body with 120G on a DA to open the pores of the fiberglass.
Then, Do bodywork:finishing your bondo in 180G or finer.
Now you will be ready for a high build Urethane primer.
After lots of block sanding and re-priming you should be ready for the Base/clear part.
