Bruin d,
I know that spot on the loop! Thank you for your service and Welcome to North Island! That’s a great place for some shore duty.
My eldest brother is an O-6 out there (we are hoping for O- 7 soon!) and my son is in week 4 at Great Lakes right now. Go NAVY!
Welcome to Club Cobra. Very cool Suburban.
Don’t let the 385 Series haters scare you away. They are by far the BEST COBRA MOTOR! (Those words are the CC equivalent of kicking an angry Chihuahua. Lots of annoying bark, but that’s it.. Lol)
With regards to weight: Yes, a 385 series build can be 750lbs, but it’s not a given.
Typical factory iron block, Alum head builds are in the 600-650 range.
Aluminum big block builds can be in the 520-570 lbs range. (351ish weight)
What is a given is that pump gas, hydraulic cam’d small blocks or FE’s don’t make 750-800 HP.
Those numbers are do-able with a ported SCJ or P-51 heads let alone the Boss 9 head.
There are a few Boss headed Cobras around. They are amazing heads with huge potential. You will just have to do some foot box rework and custom exhaust.
Regardless of the motor you choose, Cobras are pure fun and exhilaration from every angle.
Drop me and email if you want to talk about 460’s!
