There are pluses and minuses to the scheme in that you are locked into one manufacturer but they do seem to have a big range for the system and the quality is top notch.

the last 12 months ive been replacing my rechargeable tools as they die with dewalt so far i have a really handy 10 volt drill that punches well above its weight . a 18 volt drill / the rattle gun and a angle grinder the rattle gun and grinder share the same batteries . one of the chargers does the 18 volt and the 10 volt drill and the other charger does the grinder and rattle gun .
im not sure what to buy next its almost like a disorder tools and me lol.
