The 3.5L turbo is the second generation of the engine that is now running in the Tudor class Daytona Prototype (DP) race cars.
The displacement chise is because of the FIA rules. GTE class can have a max 5L naturally aspirated or 4L turbo/superchared. The physics will instantly tell you that the right choice is the turbo engine. 3.5LTurbo (HP, TQ) >> 5.0L naturally aspirated. This is already old news.
The new Ford GT is designed as a race car, it is built around the engine. The street cars are part of the homologation requirement and we are really sorry if they aren't so comfortable.
