I have the heat shields on my side pipes, and everything is ceramic coated.
All of the issues mentioned still exist, by a lesser degree.
I have still burned myself on the pipes that exit the car, ahead of the shields.
I was adjusting the carb.
Also; when I go to car cruises or shows, I never leave the car for the first 1/2 to 3/4 hour. Children can really get in trouble if you don't watch them!
I always help my wife out of the car, so we are sure that her legs do not touch the heat shields. (Still HOT) I like the welding blanket idea too.
