We've been using the Halibrand wing nuts for about 30 years. A couple of years ago (when Halibrand changed hands) we got a batch that wasn't quite like the older ones. I think they're OK now. The Vintage Wheel wing nuts are useable, but the threads are about 005" larger.

When we machine our hubs, we use these specs:
OD: 2.320"-2.33"
60 deg. Unified form thread, 8 tpi.
Pitch diameter: 2.244"-2.249" measured by 3-wire method or pitch micrometer.
