I have a 390 in my 427 sc . I was on a "budget " . I called Joe l. at Danbury and he had one . It turned out to be somthing he used to display in his shop . It was dressed up with 428 valve covers . Edelbrock prefomer RPM intake .It had 406 heads which are hi compression . 30 over bore .hydraulic lift , Its blueprinted , ballanced which is great for keeping the revs up . Makes over 400 hp , and seemes good for now and very reliable . If i was to redo it would have aluminum heads , water pump , a crank from a 428 to make a stroker , I would replace the cast iron bell housing .
As far as resale , a 428 or 427 would be most peoples first choice , after that I dont think the motor will be the selling point .There is the exception . One old post had a k car with a 406 that would not sell .
I like my engine , it kind of makes me think of what the cars probably felt , and sounded like.
