It's all relative - Australia has a much smaller population than the USA, therefore a smaller economy and less capability to take massive numbers of immigrants. In round numbers, the U.S. has average 1 million legal immigrants from 2010-2013, while Australia had 213,000 immigrants in fiscal 2013-2014. IOW, the U.S. allowed in roughly 5x the numbers allowed in by Australia. Bravo.

OTOH, the U.S. had a population of 316 million in 2013, while Australia's estimated population in 2015 is 24 million. The U.S. is therefore 13x larger than Australia - so on a per capita basis Australia is allowing in WAY more immigrants than the U.S. Even if you add in the current estimated illegal immigrants of roughly 300,000 per year, Australia is still taking in more than the U.S., again on a per capita basis.

Don't wrench a shoulder patting yourself on the back.

BTW, recent data indicates more Mexicans have been leaving than arriving.
