Mate, what you really need is an oscilloscope (CRO) on the speedo signal then you'll know once and for all. Sorry I don't have one. I had to borrow one when I couldn't get my Tacho going - found out the signal peak-to-peak was too low and had to get the Tacho input modified.
Wish there was an iPhone "App for that" :-(
