If the car was first registered post-1989, follow this process if you meet the stated eligibility requirements.

That gets it into the country. Then the hard work begins. Queensland Transport will advise what you need to provide to get the car registered. I have no reason to believe they will relax the engineering inspection requirements due to the personal import status.
