I had mine mounted as the picture shows between the seats and on the back wall, but mine had 4 mounting holes in the bracket that went long ways and then it had a center snap ring that held the extinguisher in place. I drilled the 4 bracket holes and then got a piece of thick aluminum that I cut the same length as the mounting bracket and put that on the back side of the back wall to make sure the small chrome bolts couldn't pull put through the wall. That was in 1996 and it is still just as solid as when I put it in. Also I had no problem with hitting my elbow on the extinguisher.
