Exclamation Before doing any such work on a gas tank..

Be sure the tank is drained, and DRY. Vapors combined with sparks from filing/tool work, can give you one mondo blast, ruin your cobra and your day, maybe even kill the repairman.

The best way is to fill the tank with water as welders do, but for this type of work that seems impractical? Be SURE the tank is DRY by leaving the sending unit hole open for a day or two, AFTER draining the tank completely. If you are worried about MOTHS and such, Then tape a piece of cheesecloth over the hole
