Greenwater,

Compressing the spring via the adjusting collars doen't change the rate unless the coils are binding. Is the shock near its extended length when the car is at ride height? That could give you the impression that the ride is stiffer. Generally 2" wheel travel in each direction from normal ride height is a good minimum.

I take it that there's no adjustment at the rear. Consider going to a shorter spring (even with a short spacer) if the shocks are near being fully extended at ride height.
