I have the windshield mounting that Dan has and from my perspective the mirrors are near useless and you cannot get enough turn on them without getting into the side wind wing. I hardly ever use mine and the cheap versions break easily when torquing down. I lost one this weekend. Having said that, if you can a convex (I think that is right) lens they may provide better viewing.

Patrick's may work better on the fender, but a lot of guys don't like the thought of drilling in the body for the mirror. The ones I posted on above will work, but don't look period correct. Sometimes it's hard to balance the two. Perhaps a lens change is easiest to maintain both.
