Other track days I have attended in the past (both in Australia and the US) have had no issue with passengers riding in the cars, as long as they signed the liability waiver and wore appropriate safety gear ...usually required long sleeves and an AS1698 (or equivalent) helmet.
Admittedly, it was kind of a 'them and us' approach this year because passengers weren't permitted. I think people were unnecessarily excluded as a result and that would have really added to the event. They did talk about letting passengers go out on the track at some point (believe it was the Sunday IIRC).
Out of interest, why didn't that happen?
