Default Early CSX 3xxx Mixed Wheels

Forgive the question if it's been asked, but I've just started to research the early 427 cars in the hopes of doing a tribute build.

One thing I've noticed is that several of the early 427 cars ran FIA wheels, or FIA wheels on front and wineglass style Hallibrands on back.

I'm assuming this was done to accommodate wider rear tires.

How prevalent was this practice, and has anyone had the stones to do a replica/tribute car with mixed wheels on it?
