All the magnesium race wheels, multiple designs and widths, for Cobras and 427 Cobras were produced by Ted Halibrand's company.
Early 427 Cobra race cars used left-over Cobra racing wheels. After the COBRA II wheel design came out and later the six spoke 8.50 wheel for 427 Cobras almost anything was possible depending on people’s preferences and availability. Legend says Halibrand’s works had a terrible fall out rate (defective wheel castings or machining problems) making new wheels and that helped create availability issues more than once for every design and size.
The choices of knock-off nuts were forged carbon steel or forged aluminum. The typical forged steel ones gained red rust fairly quickly as either they were not plated or the plating was so poorly done and thin it didn’t last long.
I don’t know about early and mid cars material wise but some middle CSX33xx production cars got aluminum KOs on one side of the cars and steel ones on the other; don’t ask me which side was which as that was long ago now that I started noticing it on a 700 mile from new car.
