Actually Shelby was planning on putting in a 427 SOHC in a Daytona Coupe (CSX2286) for the 1964 LeMans race. Ford was delayed in getting the Cammer engine to Shelby, and so got him an aluminum 390 with 58 mm Webers instead. The 390 engine was put into the car, before the project was shelved. CSX2286 did race at LeMans in 1965 with a 289 engine.
