I have a FE powered car and a couple of years ago I had a seam fail and had to replace the radiator. I then experienced what appear to be similar high temp issues. I discovered that I had some air trapped in the cooling system. The problem was easily resolved by purging the remaining air out of the cooling system. One thing that helped was drilling some small holes in the base of the thermostat. This allows air to escape even when the thermostat is closed. Hope this feedback helps you get to the bottom of your cooling issues.
