Any car can be made to have rear exit or undercarriage exhaust. If you were to convert a 427 car, the cutout holes where the exhaust passed through the body would be left showing. 289 cars don't have that issue as their pipes run under the body work. 289 Cobra's/Slabside's/Street cars are interchangeable terms for the gentlemans style small block street car commonly built with rear exit exhaust. 289FIA's are a purpose-built race version with a more flared body like the 427 cars and sides exhaust. Both 289 styles can be race prepared, and both change their exhaust pipe routing at the header; so it's an easy change. Hope this info wasn't redundant. Nice 289 cars don't always pop up, so I would say sit back and find the right car for you. Any good exhaust shop will help get you the rest of the way! You can also consider high-heat wrappings and or heat shields on side exhaust cars...
