I couldn't agree more about the dangers of cast iron flywheels behind performance engines. Everyone should know about this stuff by now. There is simply no excuse for using one of these, including cost.
If you can not afford to buy a steel flywheel you are engaged in an activity you should not be and it may well have an unhappy ending for any number of reasons including that flywheel. The good news is the publication of these unhappy endings usually provide motivation and reinforcement to encourage others with poor judgement to do things correctly.
If you are not smart enough to know you shouldn't use one, the lack of smarts and common sense eventually becomes a self correcting problem. Sometimes we even get lucky and clean up the gene pool a bit as an extra added attraction / bonus.
