The appeal is like any other classic... it is cool, and it looks good. Plus, it's easy to work on, parts are available, and it's fun to drive. I don't agree that it's expensive to run and maintain. My car gets > 20 MPG, is reliable, and is easy and cheap to maintain. Of course it's not safe by today's standards.
