I think the battery location is determined by the battery manufacturer. If they used a Tesla Model S battery it looks like a rectangular pancake and mounts below the floor in the Tesla. The Model S is a 4 door with a lot more real estate below the floor than a Cobra so I am suspecting a different battery was used and probably mounted where the engine would normally go.

It would be interesting to see a shot with the hood open to see how he built the power source into the car. One of the nice things about the Tesla battery is the under floor placement lowers the car's CG which should translate into better handling.
