Gas shocks are really more appropriately called gas springs. They will hold a preload on the hood, and depending on how stiff it (the hood) is, the gas springs may cause it to bow up in the middle. Same thing as when you put a 'glass hood on a steel car and thus need to change the hood hinge springs to lower tension. Never put them on a cobra, but something to keep in mind.
