It is unfortunate when others would rather use defamatory comments than debate rationally, and come to an agreement on the correct answer.
The statement that says they "didn't even have an idle circuit", is completely ridiculous.
The photo of the air horn clearly shows the two air bleeds per barrel, idle and main.
The guy who wrote that needs to have somebody with a bit more knowledge than himself proofread for him before his writings hit the printing press.
Perhaps if one reads about the operation of a device before shouting early production, since every fixed venturi carburetor has an idle circuit, whether it is externally tuneable like a Weber etc, or has fixed internal restrictions like many other factory carburetors.

Page 9/15 shows the idle tube.
No idle circuit would have the engine completely die when airflow ceased to pull on the main circuit.
