Better yet, he can buy a "Student License" for PS for next to nothing. Or, you can even get a free trial here: https://www.adobe.com/downloads.html

EDIT -- Yep, he can get the "Creative Cloud" for less than ten bucks a month -- that's Photoshop/Lightroom/Etc. Click here: https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/buy/students.html That's really an offer you can't refuse.
