We all know that hydraulic power steering can have fluid leaks, but they rarely have sudden 100% loss of power assistance. They generally give a warning sign before going noisy, and gradual loss of assistance.

As a GM trained tech, I have seen and driven cars with electronic power steering failures. It is not a very nice feeling when this occurs, and disheartening to know it could happen at any time.

It is bad enough we have electronics for engines and brakes etc, but electronic power steering is definitely not on my shopping list.
