Chuck, You can use the Chevette column if you like. The piece at the bottom does need to be cut off. There are 2 brackets that mount in the upper holes of the column. The column is then mounted to the cowl bar with 1 bolt. At the other end there is an extension tube with a nylon bushing. Once the column is mounted I also make a bracket at the firewall to hold the column from any side to side movement. The column that DV sells is complete and just need to be mounted. Also in your manual on page 7-14 is the section for mounting the column.
