Yes im talking about downward force when closing. That is not an area you want to stress fracture. I can see mine flex strictly from the weight of the trunk when open. I cant imagine the downward force on closing be good for that area. It would in my opinion need to be a very weak strut to overcome this. All struts ive seen require a good amount of compression to begin the collapse of the piston.
It may be fine, but to me it would add stress on an already poor design.
