Colorado did a sweep a number of years ago through the Denver metro area (Adams, Jefferson, Boulder counties I know for sure). They were looking mostly for the big RVs since they are generally visible from the street. Several people got hit with huge fines in addition to having to pay sales tax and all registration fees from the date of purchase. One guys total exceeded 100K.

Like it says, is it really worth it?

It's also a hot bed for fraudulent registrations and titles. Since it's all done remotely there is no VIN inspection. I could right now get a title for a vehicle that is scrapped and can't be titled in other states (I'd wager the do at least verify the vehicle exists, but not that it's a salvage title in another state.)

Like I said, I'm surprised the scam is allowed to even continue.
