From my long history of cleaning chrome/stainless header pipes on motorcycles and now on Cobras- there is no way to keep them "like new" but did fine a way to make them really nice and living with some patina.

First step- clean with Goof Off the liquid in a spay bottle used for cleaning gummy surfaces. Let Goof Off work by letting it do the work with a good five minute soak

Second step- rinse with water and dry

Third step- Use a Clorox Eraser pad with a little bit of water. This will take out some of the discolor and cleans to a nice feel.

Fourth Step- using your favorite metal polish for the sparkle shine. I use Mothers Metal Polish

Without being said, cleaning is done on cold pipes.
