The differences from car to car in the early small block Cobra days was particularly evident on the comp cars.

Just before Covid I embarked on a little project (yet to be completed) to document the various hood scoops on the small block and big block Cobras ( "The scoops, the whole scoops and nothing but the scoops, so help me Shelby"). I hope to submit my tongue in cheek article to Rick Kopec and see if it's worthy of some coverage in the Shelby American mag.

From hundreds of historical photos in many Cobra books, I have so far documented 14 distinctly different hood scoops on the small block Cobras and 4 different hood scoops on the big block cars.

In speaking with Peter Brock and the folks at Shelby American in Las Vegas I've learned that many different craftsman of the day created the scoops and few were the same.

In fact in the Cobra museum in Vegas, on 6 comp cars on display I counted and photographed 4 different hood scoops.

I'm sure that's the same for the oil coolers on the small block cars.

Cheers
Greg
