Default Fuel tank question and changes

I went to see the progress on the other CRII build happening here and to chat about some ideas, parts, and info all the members have shared and we got on the topic of the fuel tank.

The guy doing the work on the car wondered if other owners have difficulties filling their tanks as the filling stem enters the side of the tank. He thought that it might cause issues with the pump clicking off because it'd be fighting once the fuel reached the filling hole. I found this link:
Gas Tank question
that mentioned the design was to clear the frame. It also mentions the issue of no vent.

I'd like to use a lemans / monza style gas fuel cap with a locking inner cap, like the one sold by vintage wheels, in the correct position on the passenger side rear fender/quarter panel using a piece that a member showed me from daxbenelux.com.

I found this vent:

and some information on the venting topic of venting. I'd be worried about smelling gas fumes and wonder if there's a more simple way of running a vent from the tank to the filling neck.

What have other members experienced with filling. Is the builders assumption that CRII owners have issues filling correct? How have other owners modified their tanks and filling caps and added vents?

As always, thanks for all your help and advice. Below is a picture of the fiberglass piece from DAX
