Are there aftermarket market 427’s without cross bolts? The owner took possession of the car when he bought a batch of five cars. He is a Corvette man and knows nothing about this car or Ford engines. The asking price is $69000 which I think is high. After owning an AC MkIV for 15 years I am hesitant to buy a kit. Where should I look for a factory VIN or chassis number.
The "SW" type VIN (again, this signifys a PA state issued VIN and VIN tag) would be located on the firewall, as that is where the PA state police have been ordered to rivet them on. Usually on the passenger side upper corner, but I have seen it located on the drivers side as well.

I do not believe the car is a Contemporary, there are signs of a Contemporary, but the square tube frame is not something found on any Contemporary Cobra, and I've seen the 2nd ever built, as well as the last one out the door from Burtis (now lives here in the Greenville, SC area). It does have knock off wheels, and it does have a IRS and what looks like a 70's Camaro style gas tank......

As for 427 engines, Ford created "center oiler" (non cross bolted) and side oiler (cross bolted) 427 engines. Beware that plenty of people have mistaken 390 engines with 427 heads installed as 427 engines in the past. Check all casting codes, check all date codes at the very least.
