Now my intent is to just go with a black, "COBRA" oval dual four air cleaner that I've had for 20 years in my shed. It has the cast aluminum finned top. It has a stamped sheet steel lower , but has a 5/8" tall flanges formed out the bottom, I assume for linkage clearance. I've looked at other oval bases that are cast aluminum only have a 1/4" flange rings that mounts on top of the carbs. I've since been looking around and do not find any oval air cleaner with sheet metal bottoms. The box the ovel air cleaner came in, does not have the return address so I do not know where or when I bought it. Are the sheet metal oval bases a bad choice or are the cast lowers a better choice? Should I use a cast aluminum base? I'm trying to combine shipping and want to plan out my order elements, wing nuts, and maybe a cast base.
